Outside, active and under way
The Landschaftspark Hoheward is indeed located in Herten, but can also be reached quickly from Recklinghausen. With a height of 111 metres and a total area of 170 hectares the slagheap is one of the biggest in the Ruhr area. Located on top of the heap you will find the steel arches of the observatory which are 45 metres high and an obelisk. Also the hike up there is spectacular: Coming from the east you will take the “Drachenbrücke”, from the north you will climb up more than 500 stairs until you reach the summit.
Tip: The “Balkon-Promenade” and the “Ewald-Empore” will offer you the best views.

Regardless of whether you want to relax, be active or just observe the ships passing by – at the Stadthafen of the Rhein-Herne canal you can either get active or let your soul dangle. With stand up paddling you can either get your workout in on the water or challenge your thrill with bungee jumping from high up above the water.
